Migraine Headache and Pain
The neurobiology of migraine headache and accompanying episodes of sensory disturbance is poorly understood and no diagnositc biomarker has yet been identified. Our team conducts clinical studies on migraine, chronic pain and neuroinflammation as well as research on valid pain models.
The neurobiology of migraine headaches and accompanying sensory disturbances is not fully understood, and a diagnostic biomarker has yet to be identified. In the study group, clinical studies related to migraine, chronic pain, and neuroinflammation are being conducted, alongside research on valid pain models.
Clinical neurophysiological studies focused on issues such as sensory integration and sensorimotor integration problems in migraine patients, mechanisms of multiple sensory disorders, and temporal differentiation of somatosensory, visual, and auditory sensory modalities are ongoing. Clinical and translational studies related to the gut-brain axis are being conducted by examining gut permeability, inflammatory biomarkers, and microbiome profiles in migraine and medication overuse headache.
Current experimental headache models investigate mechanisms such as cortical spreading depression, nitroglycerin and levcromacalim induced sensory perception through thalamic gating, modulation of the somatosensory cortex, and triggers of headache caused by food, medication, etc.
These scientific studies are supported by projects like BAP, ADEP, TÜBİTAK 1004, TCSBB, and TÜBA.
