On January 13, 2026, the “NÖROM Meetings: Headache” event, held at NÖROM, addressed current research and clinical applications in the fields of neurology and algology. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Levent İnan and Assoc. Prof. Doğa Vurallı, the event featured presentations by Lecturer PhD Elif Gülçiçek Abbasoğlu Topa and Specialist Dr. Ezgi Can.

In the first presentation, Lecturer PhD Elif Gülçiçek Abbasoğlu Topa shared experimental and molecular findings on the pathogenesis of drug overuse headache (MOH). The presentation detailed how frequent drug use in chronic migraine patients affects the trigeminovascular system, inflammatory processes, CGRP release, and changes in the sulfotransferase (SULT1A1) enzyme involved in drug detoxification. Findings obtained from the experimental MOH model highlighted the relationship between intestinal permeability, systemic inflammation, and brain inflammation.

In the second presentation of the seminar, Specialist Dr. Ezgi Can presented a case study of an interventional algology approach applied to a patient with medically resistant Eagle Syndrome. The effectiveness and safety of hybrid glossopharyngeal nerve block and pulsed radiofrequency treatment, performed under ultrasound and fluoroscopy guidance, in glossopharyngeal neuralgia caused by an extended styloid process were discussed. The presentation emphasized that a significant reduction in pain scores and decreased medication requirements were achieved in the patient after the intervention.

The seminar, which was followed with great interest by the participants, concluded after a question-and-answer session. The event offered participants a current and holistic perspective by combining both basic science and clinical applications.
