NÖROM has been accepted as an associate member into EBRAINS, one of Europe's most prestigious digital research infrastructures. Being the first institution from Türkiye to join this network, our Center will strengthen collaborations in brain science and health across Europe while also directly contributing to the future design of cutting-edge neuroscience tools.
Established in 2020 under the leadership of Gazi University, in collaboration with Ankara University and Middle East Technical University (METU), our Center NÖROM (Neuroscience and Neurotechnology Center of Excellence), Türkiye's first interdisciplinary neuroscience and neurotechnology research center, has added another international achievement.
This strategic partnership will allow our Center to co-design future iterations of EBRAINS' cutting-edge tools and services, as well as strengthen collaboration across Europe in the field of brain science and health. Supporting multidisciplinary research spanning clinical, human, and animal neuroscience with its strong infrastructure in multimodal neuroimaging, electrophysiology, neuromodulation, computational neuroscience, neuroinformatics, and clinical neuroscience, our Center will take part in global-scale innovation processes in line with its commitment to open science and FAIR data principles, aiming to improve brain health and accelerate the development of next-generation neurotechnologies.
The International Success of a Deep-Rooted Academic Tradition
Founded in 1926 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Gazi University is one of Türkiye's oldest and most distinguished public research universities. Located in Ankara, the University has played a pivotal role in the development of higher education, science, and technology in Türkiye for a century. Possessing internationally recognized strengths in medicine, health sciences, engineering, natural sciences, and education, our University combines a strong academic tradition with a commitment to research, innovation, and societal impact. Through major research infrastructures and interdisciplinary initiatives, including our Center NÖROM, Gazi University continues to actively contribute to national and international scientific collaborations and the advancement of knowledge for the benefit of society.
"We Are Creating a Unique Platform Between Europe and Türkiye"
Evaluating the membership process, our NÖROM Director Prof. Dr. Hayrunnisa Bolay expressed the significance of this partnership with the following words:
"Our membership creates a powerful relationship, enriching the EBRAINS ecosystem with our specialized capabilities. NÖROM's partnership with EBRAINS serves as a unique platform that connects neuroscience, digital research infrastructures, and clinical innovation across Europe and Türkiye. Through this collaboration, we will integrate our expertise in multimodal neuroimaging, electrophysiology, neuromodulation, computational neuroscience, translational neuroscience, and clinical research into the broader European scientific network. Together, we are committed to advancing open, reproducible, and FAIR neuroscience principles while strengthening international collaboration."
"NÖROM Brings with It Considerable Experience"
Expressing his satisfaction with NÖROM's participation, EBRAINS Joint-CEO Philippe Vernier noted the following:
"We are very pleased to welcome NÖROM as an associate member at EBRAINS. The Center - which is the first member of the EBRAINS AISBL from Türkiye – brings with it considerable experience in interdisciplinary neuroscience and neurotechnology research."
